From concept sketches to mass production, creating a customized display requires a development process that is both structured and adaptable. This article features a discussion with Eurocoin’s Head of Product Development, Regina Nagy, who shares how the PD team turns individual customer requirements into fully engineered customized display solutions. In this interview, she walks us through the development stages, collaborative processes, and design considerations behind each bespoke solution.

Q: Describe your role as Head of Product Development and what your day-to-day work involves

A: I joined Eurocoin four years ago as a design engineer, and over time my role expanded as the demand for customized display solutions grew. Developing custom products became an increasingly important part of our work, and with that came new technical challenges and opportunities.

As our customer base and project volume increased, our product development team also grew, and we now operate with three dedicated specialists. I coordinate these efforts to ensure we deliver well-designed, reliable solutions that meet each customer’s specific requirements.

Q: When a customer approaches Eurocoin with a request for a customized display, what are the first steps your team takes?

A: Our first step is always to gather detailed information, because a well-defined brief makes the entire development process faster and more efficient. We use a structured requirements template that helps customers think through every aspect of their display needs — from mechanical dimensions to functionality and environmental conditions.

It’s very common for the specification to evolve during this early clarification phase as the details become clearer, and our goal is to guide the customer toward the solution that truly fits their application.

Q: Could you walk us through a typical development journey — from concept to finished product?

A: A customized display project goes through several structured stages, from the first concept sketch to the final production run. Our goal is to make the process transparent, collaborative, and predictable for the customer. A typical development journey looks like this:

1. Requirements & Information Gathering

We begin by collecting all necessary technical information. This ensures we understand the customer’s application, constraints, and expectations before any engineering work begins.

2. Initial Concept Sketch

Our team prepares a preliminary drawing that includes essential details such as:

  • Overall dimensions
  • Connector types and placement
  • Mounting points, etc.

This sketch helps both sides align on the basics before moving forward.

3. Quotation & Timeline

Based on the concept sketch, we prepare a detailed quotation, including the cost of the prototype and the expected lead time for sample production. The customer receives the drawing together with the offer for review.

4. Final Engineering Design

Once the quotation is approved, we create the final technical drawings. These are shared with the customer one more time, giving them the opportunity for final adjustments before production begins.

5. Component Procurement & Inspection

After approval, we order all required components. Every part is individually inspected upon arrival — a step we take very seriously to ensure reliability and compliance with all relevant certifications before assembly begins.

6. Prototype Assembly

Our engineers assemble the prototype and document the entire process, creating a clear assembly guide that will later be used for mass production to maintain consistent quality.

7. Packaging Design

If needed, we develop a packaging solution specifically for the product, especially when preparing for high-volume production or fragile configurations.

8. Final Quality Control

Once assembled, the prototype undergoes a full quality inspection, covering electrical, mechanical, and visual checks. We provide the customer with photos and the product manual for review.

9. Customer Testing & Feedback

After the prototype is delivered, the customer begins their own testing. It’s not unusual for new ideas or adjustments to surface at this stage. If changes are required, we revise the design and repeat the necessary steps.

10. Mass Production Support

When the prototype is approved, we begin mass production. Our development team supports the production line to ensure every unit meets the same quality standards as the original sample

Q: Please explain the collaboration process among your team, the engineering department, and the customer during this workflow?

A: Collaboration is ongoing throughout the entire development process. We work closely with the customer’s technical team to refine specifications, while our sales colleagues act as the bridge between the client and our product development engineers. Regular updates, technical discussions, and when needed, in-person meetings ensure that everything stays aligned from start to finish.

Q: What are the most common reasons customers choose a customized display instead of a standard one?

A: Every cabinet and every system is different, so a standard display doesn’t always fit what the customer wants to achieve. Customized industrial displays allow manufacturers to build in their own identity — whether that’s a specific mechanical design, unique functionality, or a signature visual style. For us, it’s important to support these ideas and help customers create something that truly reflects their brand and stands out in the market.

Q: Can you share an example of a project where customization made a big difference for the client’s application?

A: One good example is our Eclipse display, which we adapted to match a customer’s existing mechanical and technical requirements. The Eclipse is one of our standard models, but even those can be customized when the application demands it. Sometimes the modifications seem small from the outside, yet they make a significant difference for the customer.

Having a partner who can adjust a standard product — whether it’s a minor tweak or a major redesign — gives them the flexibility they need to integrate the display seamlessly.

Q: Are there certain customer requests or display features that you see more frequently, or is every customized display project truly unique?

A: There are definitely patterns in what customers request. One of the most common adjustments is changing the connector type — for example, opting for HDMI instead of DisplayPort to match their existing hardware.

Another frequent request involves the LED features on our Eclipse models. Almost every customer wants a unique LED configuration, whether that’s custom colours, patterns, or behaviour. So while each project has its own character, certain elements do come up regularly.

These recurring elements appear often, but each project still has its unique character, especially when working with a custom LCD display manufacturer like Eurocoin that can adapt standard models to specific needs.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working on customized display projects?

A: What I enjoy most is the moment we assemble the first prototype and see it come to life. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching a design move from concept to a functioning product you can hold in your hands — especially when the customer is just as satisfied with the result.

I also value the teamwork behind every project: the brainstorming, the problem-solving, and the way an idea we developed together becomes a real, working solution. Every project offers a new challenge and a chance to learn something different about custom display manufacturing.
